The Trolley Trail is the name for the old Portland Traction Company streetcar line right-of-way that stretches between the cities of Milwaukie and Gladstone. Metro and the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) purchased the right-of-way in December 2001 to be developed into a regional multi-use trail.
When completed, the Trolley Trail will connect neighborhoods, schools, parks, retirement communities and business districts between Milwaukie and Gladstone and complete a missing link in Metro's regional trail system.
The Trolley Trail will run along a historic corridor once used by a streetcar line that operated between Portland and Oregon City. The idea of developing a trail within this historic right-of-way has been a dream in the community for decades. The 6-mile Trolley Trail will connect with existing bike lanes in Milwaukie and Gladstone to complete an essential link in Metro's regional trails system. When complete, the Trolley Trail, and connecting trails will create a continuous 20-mile loop connecting Portland, Milwaukie, Gladstone, Oregon City and Gresham.
